Who we are (were):
Until we retired at the end of 2004, Cosmic Slop was a weekly radio feature dedicated to resurrecting the best and the worst pop music of the 1970s, along with occasional gems from the 60s and 80s. Hosts Joel Stitzel and Chuck Tomlinson played tons of vintage popular music from outside the mainstream of what might be considered an "oldies program".
What we did:
Any idiot can (and often does!) play a couple of Abba and Eagles songs and call it a "Seventies Show." To that we said, "Baloney!" Cosmic Slop played the hits and the misses--from the United States, the United Kingdom, and continental Europe! No other show on earth, to our knowledge, has the depth and breadth of Cosmic Slop's music library.
Have You Never Been Mellow?
For a little over a year, Club 14 KLBB (1400 and 1470 AM) gave Chuck and Joel free rein over their airwaves from 8pm to 10pm on Sunday nights. The resulting show, Have You Never Been Mellow, With Chuck and Joel, reinvented "easy listening" radio for a new generation. It was ahead of its time in anticipating the current hot radio format: rock-based adult contemporary. Unfortunately, it's no longer on the air, but you can relive the memories (or save tens of thousands of dollars in station consulting fees) with the complete set of playlists. Over a year with no repeats! (Except for the unintentional ones...oops!)
